When one client, an urban transplant, told me that she had never expected to “long for a moment to sit” in the shade of her cottonwood on a violet-strewn stone terrace, at ease in her rural home, I understood.  We had discussed ideas and forms.  She brought aesthetic sophistication and style.  But I believe she was unprepared for the experience of stillness

and longing.

Whether a project entails the simple completion of poolside planters or leads to immersion in site design, hardscape development and planting plans, my objective is to honor my client’s  experience within that garden.  Garden details such as a hand-placed boulder, a custom-forged lamp or gate, a rose arbor with antique stone columns or a quiet fountain in a shady courtyard become elements to support this larger imperative.
